Mazda Motor Corporation filed the following recall with MLIT on February 19, 2016.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this recall may cause you.
We have been informing the subject vehicle owners related to the following recall regarding the field action by means of direct mail from the Mazda dealers.
In order to expedite the remedy of the affected vehicles with Takata air bag recall, MLIT announced concrete policy not to renew the valid term of any vehicle for the next vehicle inspection, if the subject vehicles are yet to be remedied under the Takata recall action, having a potential risk of abnormal air bag deployment. As of May, 2018 when the new policy becomes effective, certain subject vehicles will become unable to pass the renewal of vehicle inspection. If your vehicle is subject to Takata air bag recall and is yet to be remedied, please contact any authorized Mazda dealer near you. We are concerned with your safety and strongly encourage you to have your vehicle remedied immediately. The remedy will be performed free of charge.

Description of the defect and cause
On a certain driver side airbag inflator, the root cause of airbag rupture has not been identified, however the inflator body may potentially rupture by the generated excessive internal pressure in the event of airbag deployment, thus the airbag inflator will be replaced as a preventive measure.
Remedy to correct the defect
Mazda dealers replace the driver side air bag inflator with modified parts.
